This is the Part I of a two-series video that shows the order of the services that are traditionally celebrated in the evening which is the beginning of the liturgical day cycle according to the Church calendar. It consists of two services, the Vespers (vechernya, esperinos) – the proper service of the evening, and the Matins (utrenya, orthros), which is usually celebrated after the vespers in the Russian Orthodox Church, but can be celebrated in the morning before the Divine Liturgy.
This video was specially created for the students of the online Course of the Moscow Theological Academy and can be used as a supplement for studying the order of the Orthodox liturgical services, understanding the actions of the clergy during the worship.
