This video shows all rulers from East Francia, the Holy Roman Empire, the German Confederation, the German Empire to the Federal Republic of Germany.

Color symbolism:
— Green: Brandenburg-Prussia, Kingdom of Prussia
— Red: Austrian Habsburgs’ holdings
— Light yellow: Spanish Habsburgs’ domains
— Orange: Dutch rebels, Union of Utrecht, Dutch Republic

If the ruler was king and later became an emperor, only the title of emperor is displayed.

The map shows the territory controlled by the ruler at the end of his reign.
